THE RISEN CHRIST

The road to Emmaus is one of the Biblical accounts of JESUS' appearance to His disciples after His crucifixion and resurrection. Two major events took place on that road; the Supernatural revelation of the risen CHRIST and the subsequent supper at Emmaus.

The account of the Emmaus journey in Luke 24:13–35 notes that two of CHRIST's disciples were walking towards Emmaus when suddenly they met the LORD JESUS. At first, they did not recognize Him, as they narrated the sad events that just happened to them. How their precious LORD was murdered by the very people He came to save through the hands of the Roman soldiers.
Scriptures:
"Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that JESUS Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained so that they did not know Him". (Luke 24:13-16) NKJV
On the road, the LORD JESUS explained to the disciples from the Scriptures why it is important that He must die. That's why He came to the earth in the first place. Still, they didn't recognize that they were walking with JESUS. How often has the LORD appeared to us in our journey with Him, particularly during sad moments of our lives when we couldn't recognize His presence. Even when He explains why we go through the difficulties that we face, we are too short-sighted to see the BIG picture. That God has a great and eternal purpose in view and in the end our pain will yield profits for us in time and eternity.
Here is what Paul the apostle says about the difficulties that we face in our walk with the LORD. Reading from the Message Bible, he states, "These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever." (1 Corinthians 4:17)
DON'T BE OVERTAKEN BY SORROW
The point the LORD JESUS tried to make to His disciples on the road to Emmaus is that they shouldn't be overtaken by sorrow because He was killed. After death comes resurrection. No pain in CHRIST lasts forever nor goes unrewarded. God will come through for you. He will turn your pain to gain, your tests to testimonies, your trials to triumph, and your obstacles to miracles. No matter how bad the situation is, it is not over until God says so. Even if a heavy stone is rolled on your way out of the troubles you are facing, God will send His angels to roll away the stone and you will rise up with mighty victory in the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
DISCERN THE LORDS PRESENCE WHEN YOU GO THROUGH A CRISIS
The main subject of the road to Emmaus was to prove the resurrection of the LORD JESUS to His disciples by appearing to them, but it serves other purposes, too. It was an exposition of Biblical truths and it addresses the issue of discernment. How do we discern the LORD during our crisis? How do we discern His resurrection power in our difficult situations? Do we ever think He will abandon us in our troubles or He will appear in our fire as He did to the three Hebrew boys in Babylon, as the fourth man in the burning fiery furnace of Nebuchadnezzar? (Daniel 3:23-25)
Lastly, the narrative of the road to Emmaus shows how we can evolve from fear to faith and from despair, discouragement, and despondency to joy, hope, and exhilaration. God will use the difficulties we encounter in life to give us a deeper revelation of Himself, develop our character, and mature our faith in Him. Because JESUS lives, we will live also!
Let's Pray:
Heavenly FATHER, I thank You for Your WORD on this glorious day, when I am reminded that the LORD JESUS CHRIST did not only die on the Cross for me, but He resurrected also. And because He lives, I will overcome every difficulty that I face. I will rise above life's challenges and emerge as more than conquerors through CHRIST Who loves me. I thank You for the Power and the Glory of CHRIST's resurrection and I receive His Power in my life and situations by faith in the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Amen.
JESUS REIGNS!
