HOW TO INCREASE IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD?

Increasing in the knowledge of God is a privilege given to every believer in CHRIST through the help of the HOLY SPIRIT.

The knowledge of God is the foundation of our salvation and faith in God. Romans10:17 tells us that faith comes through hearing and hearing the WORD of God. Meaning, when we give attention to study God's WORD or listen to its messages, it increases our knowledge of God.

“That ye might walk worthy of the LORD unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:10) KJV.

Increasing in the knowledge of God is at the heart of our relationship and fellowship with God. It builds intimacy with Him and intimates us with His Spiritual essence. John 4:24 states that God is Spirit.

Increasing in the knowledge of God is primarily an internal and Eternal experience; it begins in the human heart and continues throughout all eternity. Thus, when we chase after God through the reading of His WORD and intense praying, it would promote our sanctification and glorification.

Increasing in the knowledge of God is essentially a spiritual exercise. In John 17:17, the LORD JESUS prayed to the FATHER to sanctify us through the Truth of His WORD. Primarily, increasing in the knowledge of God requires the use of our heart because it is a spiritual exercise. However, it may sometimes require the use of our mind, because it entails knowledge and understanding.

The Revelations of the HOLY SPIRIT

What brings about growth in our knowledge of God are the revelations the HOLY SPIRIT gives us from the WORD of God. They establish our relationship with God and make us intimate with Him. Conversely, not having the knowledge of God is tantamount to ignorance, and it can lead to destruction. Hosea 4:6 states that "God's people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge".

Proverbs 9:10 also states that the “knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

The true knowledge of God gives us understanding of how to overcome sin, sickness and satan. It trains us how to deny ungodliness and worldly lust, and to live soberly and righteously in the world. (Titus 2:9-11) The knowledge of God will keep us from sin (Psalm 119:11). But, if we give room for satan, sin will keep us from the WORD of God.

Increasing in the knowledge of God improves our value system and integrity as believers in CHRIST. Through the knowledge of God's WORD, we can think clearly and walk wisely. Additionally, we receive grace to obey God as we increase in the knowledge of His WORD.

Finally, Increasing in the knowledge of God is not just a need, it is our greatest privilege as believers. Therefore, we should not boast about our riches, strength or might, but we should boast in the fact that we understand and know the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Now, more than ever, you must be intentional in seeking God. Set goals on how you will increase in the knowledge of God and be intimate with Him.

Heavenly FATHER, I thank You for Your WORD today. I ask that You give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in Your knowledge, so that the eyes of my understanding can be enlightened in the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Amen
